Installing Sensitive Switch For Dusk To Dawn Outdoor Light – A light sensitive switch is usually called a photocell. Photo cells easily to install in your dusk to dawn existing outdoor lights or other outdoor light fixtures, providing extra security at home from dusk to dawn. Keep in mind that the photocells keep the light on all the time, unlike a motion sensor that turns the light on only when triggered.

Turn off power to the circuit you will be working on. Remove the cover on the light, you will be working on. Install the photocell. Some exterior lights are designed to accommodate a photocell. If your fixture has this feature, a plugged hole placed in either of the two flood lights or directly under flood lights. The plug can be removed by popping it out of the hole or by turning it. If your fixture does not have an extra hole there, you must replace it with a fixture that does. Remove the plug and install photocell, secure it in place with the supplied nut.

Connect the black (or red) power supply wire to the black wire photocell. Connect the white power wire to the white fixture wire and the white wire photocell. Connect the black fixture wire to the red photocell wire. Replace the light cover. Restore power to the circuit. The light will stay on for several minutes when power is first restored.
